چکیده

We consider a conceptual and quantitative modeling approach for investigating dynamic behavior change. While the approach is applicable to behavior change in eating disorders, smoking, substance abuse and other behavioral disorders, here we present our novel dynamical systems modeling approach to understand the processes governing an individual’s behavior in the context of problem drinking. Recent advances in technology have resulted in large intensive longitudinal data sets which are particularly well suited for study within such frameworks. However, the lack of previous work in this area (specifically, on the interand intra-personal factors governing drinking behavior of individuals) renders this a daunting and unique challenge. As a result, issues which are typically routine in mathematical modeling require considerable effort such as the determination of key quantities of interest, and the timescale on which to represent them. We discuss the construction of an initial mathematical model for two starkly distinct individuals and make a case for the potential for such efforts to help in understanding the underlying mechanisms responsible for behavior change in problem drinkers. Development of a New Dynamic Friction Model for Analytical Modeling of Elliptical Vibration Assisted Turning Process

A new dynamic friction model for modeling of elliptical vibration assisted turning (EVAT) was developed in this research. The periodic change of the friction force direction is known to be one of the most important causes of this phenomenon. In modeling of machining processes (including the EVAT process), static Coulomb friction model was employed by most of the researchers. Because of the peri...

Shear-Wave Dynamic Behavior using Two Different Orientations

For laterally complex media, it may be more suitable to take a different orientation of thedisplacement vector of Shear-waves. This may change the sign of several imaginary reflections andconversion coefficients to be used in reservoir characterization and AVO (Amplitude Versus Offset)analysis or modeling. In this new convention the positive direction of the displacement vector ofreflected Shea...

Modeling of Dynamic Behavior and Estimation of Damage Incurred by Self-Centering Rocking Walls

Self-centering rocking walls are known as viable alternatives to typical shear walls, as they provide a number of solutions for eliminating seismic flaws of conventional designs. These rocking walls have a generally positive impact on the seismic behavior of structural systems, but their design makes them susceptible to concrete crushing around their base, which can lead to significantly advers...
